Pinahiwatig ni suspended Bureau of Corrections Director General Gerald Bantag sa kanyang petisyon sa Department of Justice na posibleng madamay ang iba pang personalidad sa pagkamatay ng radio broadcaster na si Percival Mabasa, kilala rin bilang Percy Lapid.

Humarap si Bantag sa DOJ kahapon para sa preliminary investigation ng double murder hinggil sa kaso ni Percy at Person Deprived of Liberty Cristito Villamor Palana aka Jun Villamor, ngunit nagsumite ito ng petisyon na humihiling sa DOJ na itigil ang imbestigasyon at hayaang ang Office of the Ombudsman ang mag-take over.

“Even before Bantag could be issued subpoena, SOJ Remulla urged him to surrender already. He maliciously pictured him as fugitive in his effort to get the public to condemn Bantag. The SOJ’s inordinate haste manifested his nervous expectation that unless Bantag was detained, other names would be vulnerable to suspicion to the point, that even the private complainant had wanted more names, he (SOJ) concluded the search of the mastermind,” saad sa petisyon.

Binanggit din ni Bantag ang gusot sa pagitan nila ni Remulla bilang batayan para maalis ang kaso sa DOJ.

“SOJ Remulla and DG Bantag have bad blood between them, hence given their open animosity, the SOJ will do everything to send him to court to defend himself regardless of the assurances of jurisprudence that a preliminary investigation is the process by which baseless and malicious complaints are prevented from being escalated to public trial to the humiliation of innocent persons,” sambit pa sa petisyon.

Sinabi rin ni Bantag na may mandato ang Ombudsman na aksyunan ang lahat ng mga reklamo laban sa mga opisyal at empleyado ng gobyerno.

“Respondent, DG Gerald Bantag respectfully moves for the inhibition of the Panel of PANEL OF PROSECUTORS AND THE ENTIRE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE in conducting the Preliminary Investigation of the cases,” ani Bantag na nagwika pang hindi siya nagtatago sa panayam ng mga mamamahayag.
