The 2024 Beijing Forum on “Swift Response to Public Complaints” will convene at Beijing’s National Convention Center from December 18-19, 2024. The overarching theme is “People’s City, Better Future,” with the 2024 forum focusing on “Modernizing for People-Centered Urban Governance.”

Jointly organized by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, China Media Group, the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, and the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, this forum fosters collaboration and knowledge sharing. It brings together domestic and international scholars, government officials, and grassroots representatives to explore advancements in urban governance. The forum will highlight successes of the “Swift Response to Public Complaints” initiative, presenting a “Chinese Solution” for managing megacity challenges globally.

This year’s program includes an opening ceremony, plenary sessions, six parallel forums, and a closing ceremony. Supplementary events feature a documentary on the “Swift Response to Public Complaints” initiative, interactive experiences at the “12345” hotline center, city tours, and related exhibitions. Attendees will represent international organizations, research institutions, businesses, and citizens, including senior officials from the United Nations, APEC, and UCLG; leaders from cities such as Athens, Madrid, and Gaziantep; academics from Harvard, MIT, and the African Policy Research Institute; and approximately ten countries’ ambassadors to China. Over 160 international participants from 40 countries are anticipated, along with representatives from central government departments and over 20 Chinese cities.

The forum will launch several publications:

– Chinese and English editions of Research Achievements of the Beijing Swift Response to Public Complaints Reform

– Typical Cases of Urban Governance from Home and Abroad, showcasing 40 case studies of successful urban governance innovations.

– Global Evaluation Report on City Hotline Services and Governance Efficiency, offering a comprehensive analysis of global city hotline trends.

– A 90-minute documentary, “Your Voice,” illustrating Beijing’s “Swift Response to Public Complaints” reform through citizen stories.

Based on discussions and global consensus, the forum will conclude with the “Beijing Declaration 2024 on the Modernization of Urban Governance,” summarizing key takeaways.

An online news center will provide bilingual (Chinese and English) news coverage to over one thousand registered media journalists. Supported by Xinhua News Agency News & Information Center, this aims to streamline media reporting.
