Global Civilization Exchange: The Liangzhu Forum as a Window and Bridge “`
HANGZHOU, China, Nov. 25, 2024 — From November 25th to 27th, Hangzhou will host the second Liangzhu Forum, bringing together over 200 international figures from diverse fields like literature, archaeology, and music. This gathering uses the Liangzhu Forum’s logo—a pair of stylized eyes—as a symbol representing a window into ancient wisdom and a bridge for modern intercultural exchange.
Organized by the Hangzhou Liangzhu Archaeological Site Administrative District Management Committee, the forum aims to foster dialogue and mutual understanding, advancing a new model of global progress. Attendees, including prominent scholars and artists, will share insights into the enduring impact of Chinese civilization and the richness of global cultures.
The Liangzhu Forum, launched in 2023, builds on the 5,000-year legacy of the Liangzhu culture, extending its influence beyond Hangzhou and China to become a key platform for international cultural exchange. The Liangzhu ancient city, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2019, provides unique evidence of early Chinese civilization, comparable to those of Egypt, Mesopotamia, and India.
Hangzhou has actively promoted international cooperation through exhibitions, forums, and events, transforming the Liangzhu site into a global hub for intercultural dialogue. The inaugural forum facilitated artistic collaborations and discussions among global representatives, fostering understanding of the Global Civilization Initiative. This year’s forum will feature dialogues, exhibitions, academic seminars and concerts celebrating Liangzhu culture and Zhejiang’s heritage, alongside the establishment of a Liangzhu international archaeological center.
The Liangzhu culture’s global reach is evident in the recent “Journey Through Civilizations — An Encounter with Liangzhu” exhibition, which concluded its tour in Lima, Peru, after visiting 12 countries. This initiative reflects Liangzhu’s commitment to the Global Civilization Initiative and its role in promoting intercultural exchange.
Zhejiang’s Provincial Department of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism head, Chen Guangsheng, expressed enthusiasm for the forum’s potential to foster collaboration within the global cultural and tourism sectors, inviting international participation to experience Zhejiang’s cultural richness.
