Harbin Hosts Asia-Pacific Media Tour Showcasing its Ice and Snow Attractions
HARBIN, China, Dec. 09, 2024 — The “A DATE WITH HARBIN, A HEARTWARMING ICE CITY” Asia-Pacific media tour, organized by the Heilongjiang Branch of Xinhua News Agency’s News & Information Center, commenced on December 5th at the Harbin Grand Theater. The opening ceremony was attended by journalists from prominent media organizations in over a dozen countries, along with representatives from Heilongjiang and Harbin’s provincial and municipal media.
Participating international journalists explored Harbin Ice and Snow World, the world’s largest indoor ice and snow theme park. They also witnessed ice and snow classes at local schools, experiencing Harbin’s “One Million Youth on Ice and Snow” initiative firsthand. Furthermore, a visit to a speed skating venue provided insights into the innovative design and unique appeal of the upcoming Asian Winter Games. A key event was the Harbin Ice Harvest Festival, showcasing the blend of traditional Chinese culture, winter sports, and elements of the Asian Winter Games.
Through on-site reporting, journalists highlighted Harbin’s vibrant urban landscape, abundant ice and snow resources, and rich cultural heritage from five perspectives: “Ice and Snow,” “Culture,” “Asian Winter Games,” “Technology,” and “Livelihood.” This media coverage aims to bolster the successful hosting of the Asian Winter Games in Harbin next February.
The 9th Asian Winter Games, scheduled for 2025, will be Harbin’s third hosting of a major international winter sports event, following the 1996 Asian Winter Games and the 2009 Winter Universiade. This achievement has earned Harbin the designation of “City of Dual Asian Winter Games.”
