SINGAPORE, Dec. 13, 2024 — HTX, a leading global cryptocurrency exchange, sponsored Bitcoin MENA 2024 in Abu Dhabi, December 9-10 (UTC). This inaugural major cryptocurrency event in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region drew significant attendees, including Eric Trump, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ), and Marwan Alzarouni, CEO of Dubai Blockchain Center. The summit focused on the future of cryptocurrencies and industry opportunities.

HTX’s Global Advisor Justin Sun (TRON founder) and Charmaine Lim, Head of VIP Client Services, participated, discussing the cryptocurrency industry’s present and future. During the “The Great Debate: Bitcoin vs. Crypto” session, Justin Sun shared his perspective on Bitcoin’s role as a store of value, emphasizing security and decentralization. He advocated for maintaining Bitcoin’s current state, prioritizing stability over rapid innovation. He suggested other blockchains and cryptocurrencies are better suited for innovation.

Sun attributed Bitcoin’s exceeding $100,000 to technological advancements, citing the improved speed of USDT on TRON compared to the Bitcoin Omni Layer. He highlighted the role of stablecoin growth in increasing capital flow into Bitcoin, strengthening its position as a store of value.

“Every cryptocurrency has its value. Ethereum and TRON are easily understood due to widespread daily use. Meme coins, like DOGE, SHIB, and PEPE, have also seen substantial growth. Cryptocurrencies are like art – some pieces are easier to understand than others,” Sun stated.

Charmaine Lim, during a “Improving Access to Bitcoin in the UAE” roundtable, acknowledged the UAE’s progress in cryptocurrency adoption since 2015 but noted challenges. These include cautious bank approaches to crypto transactions, inadequate public education, and regulatory uncertainties.

Lim emphasized HTX’s UAE market focus, highlighting efforts to engage with regulators and collaborate with local banks to streamline fiat-to-crypto transactions. She mentioned HTX’s plans to provide user education through HTX Live and workshops, including Arabic support.

Lim suggested the UAE government foster a positive crypto environment through clear regulations, simplified licensing, tax incentives for blockchain companies, and expanding the regulatory sandbox.

HTX’s presence at Blockchain Life, Cardano Summit, and Bitcoin MENA in 2024 demonstrates its interest in the MENA region’s cryptocurrency potential. Through innovative products and partnerships, HTX aims to accelerate cryptocurrency adoption and regulatory compliance.

HTX plans to expand globally, fostering innovation and crypto technology adoption to build a more accessible Web 3.0 ecosystem.
