Imperial Springs International Forum 2024: A Call for Joint Action on Global Challenges “`
The 2024 Imperial Springs International Forum (ISIF) convened in Madrid, Spain on December 12, 2024. Organized by the Australia China Friendship and Exchange Association, the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, and the World Leadership Alliance – Club de Madrid, the forum drew over 200 participants from over 50 countries across political, academic, and business sectors.
Spanish Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs, Diego Martínez Belío, highlighted the forum’s role since 2014 in fostering inclusive dialogue to address global challenges.
Danilo Türk, President of the World Leadership Alliance – Club de Madrid and former President of Slovenia, emphasized ISIF’s function in building trust and mutual understanding through open dialogue. He stated that amidst strained global cooperation, the forum acts as a bridge connecting individuals, perspectives, and solutions to strengthen multilateralism.
Given the current era of rapid global change and complex global governance, the need for true multilateralism based on mutual respect, extensive dialogue, and cooperation was underscored.
Yang Wanming, President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, called for concrete actions to enhance solidarity and cooperation in addressing global challenges and upholding true multilateralism.
Ivo Josipovic, former President of Croatia, stressed the need for global action, encompassing political, cultural, and economic spheres, to tackle current global challenges, highlighting the forum’s role in facilitating this.
Csaba Korosi, President of the 77th UN General Assembly, emphasized the crucial need for cooperation and collaboration, robust institutions, and a functional multilateral order benefiting all nations during this period of significant global shifts.
Jenny Shipley, former Prime Minister of New Zealand, noted that the forum’s recommendations included revitalizing multilateral structures and fostering mutual commitment to collaborative action rather than unilateral approaches.
After eight consecutive sessions in Guangzhou, ISIF 2024 marked its first international event. Chau Chak Wing, President of the Australia China Friendship and Exchange Association, hailed the forum’s success as a collaborative effort to deepen friendship, understanding, and collective action for a better future.
Themed “Collective Action for One Future,” the forum included various activities, such as a plenary discussion and parallel forums.
