Pony.ai and Uber Join Forces to Advance Autonomous Driving
GUANGZHOU, China and SAN FRANCISCO, May 06, 2025 — Pony AI Inc. (“Pony.ai”) (Nasdaq: PONY), a leading company in the large-scale commercialization of autonomous driving, and Uber Technologies, Inc. (“Uber”) (NYSE: UBER), have announced a strategic partnership to integrate Pony.ai’s Robotaxis into the Uber platform.
The partnership is slated to initially launch in a major market in the Middle East later this year, with plans to expand deployments to other international markets. Once the service is active, Uber app users requesting eligible rides may see an option to be matched with a Pony.ai autonomous vehicle. During the initial pilot, a safety operator will be present in these vehicles until the companies achieve a fully autonomous commercial launch.
This collaboration marks a significant step in Pony.ai’s global expansion, utilizing its existing infrastructure to demonstrate robust technological capabilities. Pony.ai’s seventh-generation autonomous driving system enables the mass production of Robotaxis in a more scalable and cost-effective manner. This technological advancement supports the strategic objectives of the partnership, allowing Uber’s platform to integrate autonomous vehicles more quickly and safely as the collaboration grows to new markets.
“At Pony.ai, our vision is to create autonomous driving technology that is not only safe and reliable but also scalable, revolutionizing daily transportation,” said Dr. James Peng, Co-founder and CEO of Pony.ai. “Partnering with Uber accelerates our shared goal of making autonomous mobility a practical, everyday option for more consumers worldwide. By combining our proven autonomous systems with Uber’s extensive ride-hailing platform, we are positioned to establish a new benchmark for the commercialization of driverless services, starting in the Middle East before expanding.”
“Our partnership with Pony.ai represents another important step in bringing the benefits of autonomous mobility to the global stage,” said Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber. “As the foremost on-demand platform of its kind, encompassing mobility, delivery, and freight, Uber is uniquely placed to help speed up the commercialization of this exciting technology.”
