Rhys Workshop, a Hong Kong Social Enterprise, Debuts Barrier-Free Clothing at International Home Care and Rehabilitation Exhibition
HONG KONG, Sept. 27, 2024 — Rhys Workshop Ltd, a Hong Kong social enterprise and garment manufacturer, will participate in the International Home Care and Rehabilitation Exhibition (H.C.R.) in Tokyo from October 2-4, 2024. The company aims to introduce two barrier-free clothing designs, The Boundless scarf and medical storage bag, to elderly and disabled people in Japan. These products, designed with the welfare of the needy in mind, showcase Hong Kong creativity.
Rhys will be participating in H.C.R., Asia’s largest international exhibition, which brings together welfare equipment from around the world, from handmade aids to cutting-edge technologies.
Founded in 2018, Rhys Workshop Ltd. is a Hong Kong social enterprise garment factory. Mrs. Keung, the founder, has over 30 years of experience in high-end garment production. Inspired by her encounters with people with disabilities and her personal experience as a caregiver for her elderly mother in an elderly home, she has a deep understanding of the unique design needs of clothing for the elderly and the convenience of caregivers. Mrs. Keung is determined to use her 30 years of professional craftsmanship to show respect and care for the needy. Her daughter, Mimi Keung, the design director, graduated from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University with a degree in fashion design. She is using her expertise to break through the flat and boring image of barrier-free clothing, making it fashionable so that those in need can also wear nice clothes and enjoy a dignified life.
The Boundless collection is based on the concept of love and inclusion, integrating functionality into fashion to build an inclusive life and convince the public that clothing design can change lives and mindsets. Rhys created “barrier-free clothing” with a “full-open” design, allowing caregivers to easily and conveniently change clothes for the physically challenged, relieving the pressure of caring for the elderly and minimizing the risk of injuries to both parties during the process of changing clothes. The medical storage bag is designed for those who need to use special medical devices but feel they are not aesthetically pleasing. The design of this medical pouch is just the right size.
