Shenyang, China, November 21, 2024 – At the China International Friendship Cities Conference 2024 in Kunming, Yunnan province, themed “Common Prosperity, Shared Future,” Shenyang received the “International Friendship City Award for Outstanding Contribution.” The award, presented by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the China International Friendship Cities Association, recognized ten cities, including Shenyang, Chengdu, and Hangzhou, for their exceptional work in fostering international friendship city relations.

Shenyang representatives presented at a conference forum on “Green Urban Development Benefiting People’s Livelihood and Welfare,” showcasing the city’s commitment to building a park city with northern characteristics. They highlighted Shenyang’s transition from an equipment manufacturing model to a leader in green, low-carbon, high-quality development, emphasizing its focus on industrial transformation and upgrading through green, intelligent, and high-end development. The representatives pledged continued efforts in scientific and technological innovation, public participation, and international collaboration, inviting attendees to experience Shenyang’s green and winter landscapes.

The State Council’s October 24, 2024 approval of the Overall Plan for Land and Space of Shenyang City (2021-2035) designated Shenyang as an “International Central City in Northeast Asia” for the first time. This elevates Shenyang’s international standing and enhances its role in Northeast Asia’s opening-up and regional cooperation.

Shenyang has actively pursued its role as a key gateway for northward opening-up, engaging in global competition and cooperation. Significant progress has been made in investment attraction, channel construction, platform innovation, and foreign investment and trade. Shenyang’s “Foreign Affairs+” initiative has been strengthened, boosting the global recognition of the “International Shenyang” brand.
