WeRide Launches Autonomous Shuttle Service at Zurich Airport
WeRide Inc. (NASDAQ: WRD), a global leader in autonomous driving technology, announced the launch of its autonomous Robobus shuttle service at Zurich Airport. This collaboration with Flughafen Zürich AG and Swiss Transit Lab marks a significant expansion of WeRide’s European operations, following its successful autonomous shuttle deployment at the 2024 French Open. The nine-passenger Robobus will be the first commercial autonomous bus shuttle at a European airport, transporting airport employees between gate 101 and gate 130, starting in the first quarter of 2025.
Prior to Robobus deployment, WeRide’s Robotaxi mapped routes at Zurich Airport, showcasing the broader applicability of its technology in Switzerland. Zurich Airport’s challenging environment tested WeRide’s autonomous driving capabilities, which successfully navigated the complex operational and climatic conditions.
This project builds upon the success of WeRide’s Robobus service during the French Open in Paris, a five-kilometer route operated in partnership with Renault Group to promote sustainable public transport. WeRide’s technology, extensively tested in over 30 cities across seven countries, will initially operate with a safety driver before transitioning to remote monitoring.
Flughafen Zürich AG confirmed WeRide’s technology meets all legal and safety requirements, including data protection regulations. The company will partner with Swiss Transit Lab to ensure smooth service operation.
