$725 Million Arms Package for Ukraine Announced Before Trump’s Inauguration

A U.S. official has confirmed the Biden administration’s announcement of a $725 million military aid package for Ukraine.

This action comes less than two months before a new presidential administration takes office.

The package will include anti-tank weapons, artillery, drones, munitions for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, and anti-personnel land mines, intended to hinder Russia’s advances in the Kursk region.

Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance have voiced criticism of aid to Ukraine following Russia’s 2022 invasion; Trump previously stated he would end the war swiftly upon taking office.

However, Trump has not elaborated on his plan to achieve this.

Vance’s suggestion that Ukraine cede occupied territories and establish a demilitarized zone, a proposal rejected by President Zelenskyy, generated significant media attention earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Ukraine is urging NATO to extend an invitation for membership during their upcoming Brussels meeting.

“We believe that the invitation should be extended at this stage,” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated in a letter to NATO leaders, as reported by Reuters.

“This would be an appropriate response to Russia’s ongoing escalation, including the deployment of thousands of North Korean troops and the use of Ukraine as a testing ground for new weapons,” he added.

Last Friday, Zelenskyy also publicly pressed NATO leaders for membership during a Sky News interview.

“To halt the active phase of the war, we need to bring Ukrainian-controlled territory under the NATO umbrella,” he reportedly said.
