Authorities Seize Luxury Vehicles From Andrew Tate’s Home Amid New Trafficking Allegations
Romanian authorities seized a collection of luxury vehicles on Saturday from the home of Andrew Tate, a controversial social media figure, just days after he was placed under house arrest due to new allegations of human trafficking.
Tate, aged 37, and his brother Tristan Tate, 36, both former kickboxers and dual British-American citizens with a significant social media presence, are already facing trial in Romania alongside two women. They were charged with human trafficking and forming a criminal organization to exploit women. Andrew Tate also faces a rape charge in this case.
The luxury vehicles, confiscated from their residence near the capital, included a Ferrari, a Lamborghini, a Porsche, and a more modest classic red Lada. This seizure occurred two days after Romania’s anti-organized crime agency, DIICOT, conducted raids on four properties in Bucharest and nearby Ilfov county, resulting in the detention of six individuals, including the Tate brothers. Officers also seized thousands of dollars in cash, laptops, and data storage drives.
Georgiana Popa, one of the Tates’ lawyers, informed reporters outside the brothers’ residence on Saturday that the seizures are “legal, but unfounded” and have been contested.
“The cars are not (the brothers’) property,” she stated, without providing further details.
The Tate brothers appeared in a Bucharest court on Thursday as prosecutors sought to keep them in custody. However, a judge denied this request and placed Andrew Tate under house arrest and Tristan Tate under judicial supervision. This typically involves limitations on contact with specific individuals and periodic reporting to the police. Mateea Petrescu, the brothers’ spokesperson, asserted that the Tates strongly deny all allegations against them and “remain steadfast in proving their innocence.”
In the new case, DIICOT is investigating accusations of human trafficking, including the trafficking of minors, sexual intercourse with a minor, the formation of an organized criminal group, money laundering, and influencing statements.
The agency also claims that the defendants employed the coercive “loverboy” method to exploit 34 vulnerable victims, who were forced to produce pornographic content online for a fee, and that the defendants retained over $2.8 million (2.5 million euros) generated from this activity.
DIICOT alleges that an unnamed foreign man also sexually exploited a 17-year-old foreigner and retained all $1.5 million (1.3 million euros) generated from this criminal activity. The agency further alleges that the same man “repeatedly had sexual relations and acts” with a 15-year-old.
Andrew Tate, who boasts 9.9 million followers on X, has repeatedly maintained that prosecutors lack evidence against him and that there is a political conspiracy to silence him. He was previously banned from various social media platforms due to his misogynistic views and hate speech.
Authorities have previously confiscated some of the brothers’ assets.
Following the Tates’ arrest in December 2022, authorities seized 15 luxury cars, 14 designer watches, and cash in various currencies. At the time, authorities estimated the total value of these goods to be approximately 3.6 million euros ($3.9 million). In April, the Bucharest Tribunal ruled that the prosecutors’ case file against them met the legal criteria for a trial to commence but did not set a specific date for the trial to begin.
Last month, a court overturned an earlier ruling that allowed the Tate brothers to leave Romania while awaiting trial. This court decision is final and cannot be appealed.
