Bahamian Cruise Ship Passenger Falls Overboard
Authorities have concluded their search for a cruise passenger who fell overboard.
A cruise line representative confirmed to Digital that a 51-year-old man went overboard from the Norwegian Epic late Thursday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 3 p.m. while the Norwegian Epic was traveling from Ocho Rios, Jamaica, to Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas.
The passenger was on vacation with his family, according to the spokesperson. Their seven-night Western Caribbean cruise began on December 21st.
The cruise line immediately initiated search and rescue operations.
“Following an exhaustive but unsuccessful search, the authorities permitted the ship to resume its voyage,” the spokesperson stated.
Norwegian Cruise Line reported that the passenger’s family onboard is receiving support during this difficult time.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family,” the spokesperson added.
The Norwegian Epic, launched in 2010 and renovated in 2020, boasts 19 decks, a capacity for 4,070 passengers (double occupancy), and a crew of 1,724.
The circumstances leading to the man’s fall overboard remain unclear. The passenger’s identity has not been released.
