China Unveils Sixth-Generation Fighter Jet in Maiden Flight
China has reportedly completed the first flight of its next-generation sixth-generation fighter jet, a major achievement in aviation technology.
Social media footage shows the previously unknown aircraft undergoing a daytime test flight, accompanied by a Chengdu J-20S two-seat fighter jet acting as an observer.
The aircraft were seen flying over Chengdu, Sichuan province, on December 26th, a date coinciding with the birthday of the People’s Republic of China’s founder.
Images and videos of the tailless Chinese aircraft emerged as the U.S. continues its development of the Next-Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) fighter jet.
The NGAD program aims to replace the F-22 Raptor, a fifth-generation stealth fighter in service with the U.S. Air Force since the early 2000s.
Fifth-generation aircraft utilize stealth technology, while sixth-generation aircraft are expected to offer even more advanced capabilities.
This new aircraft represents the latest in a string of significant advancements. China recently showcased the J-35A fifth-generation fighter jet and the J-15T fighter at the Zhuhai Airshow.
