Deadly Russian Drone Strike Follows Putin’s Retaliation Pledge in Trump Call
Following a phone call between and Vladimir Putin, a Russian drone strike in Ukraine resulted in the deaths of at least five people. Among the victims were a one-year-old child, his mother, and his grandmother.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian President, reported that six drones struck the city of Pryluky. The subsequent rescue operation became particularly tragic when a first responder discovered his wife, daughter, and grandson had been killed in the attack.
“Last night, Russia attacked Pryluky in the Chernihiv region using six attack drones. A rescue operation was conducted throughout the night. Sadly, there are injuries and deaths. One of the rescuers arrived at his own home to address the devastation—only to find that a ‘Shahed’ drone had directly hit his house. Tragically, his wife, daughter, and one-year-old grandson died. This marks the 632nd child lost since the war’s escalation,” Zelenskyy shared on X after the attack.
In a since-removed post on Truth Social, Trump described his conversation with Putin as “good” but noted that it “will not lead to immediate peace.” Trump mentioned that they discussed Ukraine’s attacks on Russian warplanes and the Kremlin’s intention to retaliate.
The attack on Pryluky now appears to be Moscow’s response.
“We talked about Ukraine’s attack on , as well as other attacks from both sides. It was a positive conversation, but not one that will immediately bring about Peace. President Putin stated firmly that he would need to respond to the recent attack on the airfields,” Trump stated.
On June 1, Ukraine launched a drone attack targeting airfields in Serbia and in Russia’s far north, where Russia houses heavy bombers, . The report also stated that the U.S. estimated that up to 20 planes were damaged in the Ukrainian attack.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov announced on Thursday that the Russian planes damaged in the Ukrainian attack would be repaired.
