Pastor Josh Sullivan, an American, has expressed his gratitude to God following his rescue from captivity after a violent shootout in South Africa’s Eastern Cape Province.

In a released statement, Sullivan stated he was thankful to God for his deliverance from what he called “the worst experience” of his life. He attributed his survival to his faith.

He also thanked the thousands who prayed for his safe return, believing their prayers led to a “miracle.”

Sullivan further acknowledged the efforts of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (HAWKS), Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) special agents, and the South African Police Service. He also expressed immense gratitude for his wife, lauding her strength and resilience.

While requesting privacy, Sullivan indicated plans to share his “miraculous” story in the future.
According to HAWKS, their operation successfully rescued an American citizen, identified as a local pastor, who was allegedly kidnapped and held in KwaMagxaki, Gqeberha, since April 15, 2025.

Reports indicate Sullivan was abducted from his church in Motherwell by four men who stormed the pulpit. His truck was discovered hours later. Sullivan has reportedly been serving at the Motherwell township branch of the Fellowship Baptist Church since 2018.
