Herzog hails Trump as a ‘true friend’ of Israel, thanking him for hostage release efforts
On Inauguration Day, Israeli President Isaac Herzog lauded President Donald Trump, calling him a “true friend” of Israel and expressing gratitude for his efforts to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas.
“On behalf of the people of Israel, I offer my warmest congratulations on your inauguration as the 47th President of the United States,” Herzog stated. “You are a true friend of Israel. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to Israel’s security and to building a better future for our region. A special thank you for your commitment to bringing all our hostages home,” he added, wishing the Trump administration success.
These comments follow the release of hostages held captive for almost 500 days as part of a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement.
Ronen Neutra, whose son Omer was killed by Hamas terrorists, commented on Sunday that Trump’s strong stance, conveyed as a message to bring home the hostages before his inauguration, significantly impacted the situation in the Middle East, adding optimism about the release of all 98 hostages, starting with three women.
Trump himself stated last week on Truth Social, “This EPIC cease-fire agreement could only have happened as a result of our Historic Victory in November, as it signaled to the entire World that my Administration would seek Peace and negotiate deals to ensure the safety of all Americans, and our Allies. I am thrilled American and Israeli hostages will be returning home to be reunited with their families and loved ones.”
