Iran Executes Man for Alleged Espionage for Israel
Iranian state media announced Wednesday that Iran has executed a man found guilty of spying for Israel.
Reports indicate that Pedram Madani was executed after Iran’s highest court confirmed a death sentence from a lower court. IRNA, the official news agency, stated Madani traveled to Israel, met with Mossad agents, and provided sensitive information about a location where “infrastructure” equipment was located.
The report offered no further details but mentioned Madani received foreign money and cryptocurrency for the intelligence. It also stated that at the Israeli Embassy in Belgium.
Israel’s security agency has not yet commented.
Madani, who was 41 years old, was taken into custody in 2020.
Executions in Iran have increased recently. Iran Human Rights, a Norway-based monitoring organization, reports that at least 60 individuals have been executed in the last 10 days.
According to the organization, Madani is the third person this year to be executed on “spying for Israel” charges, which it says are frequently based on unclear charges.
In April, Iran executed a man for collaborating with Mossad and participating in the 2022 assassination of a Revolutionary Guard colonel in Tehran.
