Iran’s Missile Barrage Kills at Least 8, Injures Dozens in Israel
Israeli emergency services report that at least eight individuals have died and dozens more sustained injuries following a fresh wave of Iranian missile strikes on Monday morning.
The Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service in Israel stated that among the fatalities were four people in their 70s – two men and two women – killed in the missile attacks that impacted four locations in central Israel.
In addition to the deaths, the MDA reported that over 100 individuals were evacuated to hospitals, including a 30-year-old woman in critical condition. Rescue efforts are ongoing to locate individuals trapped under the debris of destroyed residences.
A six-day-old infant was among those rescued from the wreckage.
These attacks have increased the total Israeli casualties to at least 24 fatalities and over 500 injuries since the conflict began on Friday with an Israeli offensive against Iran.
The Israeli military stated that its fighter jets retaliated to Monday’s attacks by targeting 10 command centers in Tehran belonging to the Quds Force, an elite branch of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard responsible for military and intelligence operations.
Loud explosions, likely caused by Israel’s defense systems intercepting Iranian missiles, were heard in Tel Aviv before dawn.
U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee stated on X that a missile landed near the U.S. Embassy branch in Tel Aviv, causing minor property damage from the blast’s impact. No U.S. personnel were injured.
Iran announced the launch of approximately 100 missiles and vowed further retaliation in response to Israeli attacks on its military and nuclear facilities.
Since the start of Israel’s offensive on Friday, at least 224 people in Iran have been killed and roughly 1,300 wounded, the majority of whom were civilians, according to reports.
Iranian advocacy group Human Rights Activists, based in Washington, suggests that the Iranian government is underreporting the actual death toll. The group claims to have documented over 400 deaths, including 197 civilians.
Authorities in the central Israeli city of Petah Tikva reported that Iranian missiles struck a residential building, leaving concrete walls charred, windows shattered, and walls torn off multiple apartments.
During an earlier wave of Iranian missile strikes on central Israel on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Iran would cease its attacks if Israel stopped its offensive.
However, following a day of attacks that expanded beyond military targets to include oil refineries and government buildings, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard pledged on Monday that future strikes would be “more forceful, severe, precise and destructive than previous ones.”
Israel contends that its assault on Iran’s top military officials, uranium enrichment sites, and nuclear scientists was necessary to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
Iran maintains that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, and U.S. intelligence agencies and the International Atomic Energy Agency have stated that Iran was not pursuing a nuclear weapon.
