Israel Intercepts Suspicious Objects Crossing From Lebanon
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported on Sunday that they detected “numerous suspicious aerial targets” crossing from Lebanon. In response, Israel launched multiple interceptors, successfully bringing down the targets.
According to an IDF press release, one of the fallen targets was located near Kibbutz Ayelet HaShahar, following the activation of sirens in the Upper Galilee region.
The incident resulted in moderate injuries to an IDF officer and soldier, both of whom were transported to a hospital for treatment. The IDF confirmed that the families of the injured have been notified.
Israel Fire Services are currently working to extinguish a fire ignited in the area during the attack.
The IDF clarified that, following the activation of sirens in the Kiryat Shmona and Kfar Giladi areas, it was determined to be a false alarm.
IDF Spokesperson, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, stated during a press briefing that troops are deployed across various regions, including the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, Judea and Samaria, to counter threats against Israel.
In Gaza, the IDF is focused on identifying and neutralizing underground infrastructure in the area and the Philadelphi Corridor. Hagari stated that dozens of tunnels have been located and are currently being investigated, neutralized, and destroyed by troops.
Hagari clarified that not all of these tunnels are active, as some are outdated and have already been dealt with by the IDF. However, he emphasized that all tunnels are being neutralized.
On Sunday morning, two Israeli citizens were killed and two others wounded in a stabbing attack in the city of Holon, according to Hagari. The perpetrator of the attack was neutralized by a police officer at the scene.
Hagari also mentioned that on Saturday, the IDF and the Israeli Security Authority (ISA) responded to an alert about a terrorist cell in the Tulkarm area of the West Bank. The cell was poised to carry out a terror attack on a main road or a community, but an aircraft successfully eliminated the cell of five terrorists who were inside a vehicle.
Later that day, a counter-terrorism operation was conducted jointly by the IDF and ISA in Tulkarm, resulting in the killing of four terrorists who had opened fire on Israeli forces. Ground troops also provided support during the operation, according to Hagari.
Following the operation, troops discovered a significant quantity of firearms, ammunition, and military vests. Hagari attributed the origin of many of these weapons to Iran.
“For years, Iran has been supplying arms and funding terrorist organizations across the Middle East, including smuggling explosives into Israeli territory for terror attacks against civilians,” Hagari said. “The IDF and ISA have already prevented numerous attacks involving Claymore-type explosives smuggled into the country. We are committed to continuing our operations against Iranian terrorism wherever it may be.”
These incidents follow the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people and the abduction of approximately 250 others. Many of the hostages remain in Hamas custody.
“This evening, we also remember the 115 hostages held by the Hamas terrorist organization in the Gaza Strip,” Hagari said. “Our unwavering commitment is to bring them all home as soon as possible – those who are alive to their families, and those who are no longer alive to burial in Israel. This is our primary goal, and we will continue to act with great determination to achieve it.”
According to the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry, over 39,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 90,000 wounded in the Israel-Hamas conflict. However, the count does not distinguish between civilians and terrorists.
