Israel Urges Evacuation of Yemen Airport Amid Houthi Conflict
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) unusually posted on social media Tuesday, urging immediate evacuation of the area around Yemen’s Sana’a International Airport.
“We urge you to immediately evacuate the Sana’a International Airport area and warn everyone nearby to evacuate this area immediately,” IDF Col. Avichay Adraee stated in an Arabic post on X, accompanied by a map highlighting the area around the airport in red.
“Failure to evacuate and move away from the place puts you in danger,” he added.
Reuters reported, citing Al-Masirah TV, that eyewitnesses claimed four strikes occurred in the capital city on Tuesday, allegedly by the IDF.
While Adraee didn’t confirm if Israel planned to strike the Houthi-controlled international airport, the warning followed retaliatory strikes in Yemen a day after the terrorist group launched strikes.
On Sunday, the Iran-backed Houthis launched a missile that landed near Israel’s largest airport in Tel Aviv, apparently in response to Israel’s recently announced expanded military operations.
The Houthis threatened Israel with “a comprehensive aerial blockade.”
Following the Houthi strike on Israel’s Ben-Gurion Airport, Israel responded by deploying around 20 jets and striking the Yemeni port of Al-Hudaydah on Monday, a key port in Yemen that handles a significant portion of the country’s imports.
The Houthis alleged that the U.S. participated in joint strikes with Israel on Monday, resulting in four deaths and 39 injuries, according to the Houthi-run health ministry. The U.S. has reportedly denied involvement in the joint strike.
The U.S. has increased its aerial and naval strikes against the Houthis, with multiple sites hit since Operation Rough Rider began in mid-March, according to a U.S. Central Command statement from April 27.
