Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon told Digital that Israel is vigilant against potential Iranian aggression during the US presidential transition, warning Iran against attacking. 

His comments follow Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s vow of retaliation against Israel for a October 26th strike. Araghchi, as quoted in Iranian media, stated Iran retains the right to respond at a time and manner of its choosing. 

“I advise him not to challenge us. We’ve proven their vulnerability; we can target any location in Iran,” Danon told Digital. 

“They shouldn’t mistake the transition period for an opportunity. We’re watching closely and prepared for all contingencies,” he added. 

Danon considers US-Iran relations a key challenge for the incoming Trump administration. 

“Regarding Iran, the main challenge will be confronting their aggression and threats. The US must reassume a leadership role,” he told Digital. 

“We fight the same enemies—the US’s enemies. Iran, the Houthis, Hezbollah, Hamas—these are all adversaries of both Israel and the US. Americans should support us and understand our actions,” Danon stated. 

Danon’s remarks follow a US veto of a UN Security Council resolution on Wednesday. 

The Algerian-sponsored resolution called for an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in Israel, but lacked a provision guaranteeing the release of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. 

“It was a shameful resolution, lacking a link between the ceasefire and hostage release. I thank the US for its strong veto,” Danon said. “This shows the US stands with its strongest ally. It was shameful to hear ambassadors advocating a ceasefire while ignoring the 101 hostages. We won’t forget them; we’ll fight until they’re home.”
