Israeli Envoy Criticizes UN’s Inaction on Hamas, Citing Lack of Condemning Resolutions

UNITED NATIONS — Israel’s Ambassador to the U.N., Danny Danon, is urging the international organization to condemn Hamas for its actions on October 7, 2023, and the ongoing treatment of hostages. He highlighted the released hostages’ accounts of the harsh conditions they endured.

Speaking to the press on Monday, Danon stated, “We demand justice and a resolution condemning Hamas. This has not happened since October 7.”

Since the October 7, 2023 attacks that initiated the conflict, the U.N. has adopted several resolutions concerning Israel, but none specifically condemning Hamas.

Danon criticized the U.N., saying, “The U.N. has convened numerous emergency meetings on Israel and passed countless resolutions. However, when terrorists massacred and mutilated babies and children, the U.N. remained silent.”

Danon’s statement follows the return of the bodies of Shiri Bibas, Ariel Bibas, Kfir Bibas, and Oded Lifshitz to Israel.

In response to a request for comment, U.N. Secretary-General’s spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, stated that “even without a specific resolution on Hamas, the Secretary-General has publicly condemned Hamas’ terror actions more than 100 times since October 7th.”

Dujarric added, “We have clearly condemned Hamas’ parading of bodies and displaying the coffins of deceased hostages, including the Bibas family, as abhorrent and appalling.”

Regarding Israel’s assessment of the Bibas children’s deaths, Durjarric said, “It is crucial to conduct a thorough investigation into how the two children were killed.”

IDF spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari stated that forensic evidence indicates the murderers killed the boys “with their bare hands.” Danon referenced the brutal killings, noting that the perpetrators mutilated the children’s bodies to falsely suggest they died in an airstrike, as Hamas claimed in November 2023.

During a memorial for the Bibas family and Oded Lifshitz, Danon expressed, “This grief will resonate throughout Jewish history. We will never forget, we will never forgive.”

The memorial event, which commenced with a video montage of the Bibas family before and during the October 7 attacks, featured remarks by Argentina’s U.N. Ambassador Francisco Fabián Tropepi.

Tropepi asserted, “We must not allow these atrocities to be forgotten or the perpetrators to go unpunished. What happened on October 7 was not just another attack, but an act of terrorism of unprecedented brutality.”

The Bibas family held both Israeli and Argentinean citizenship. Argentine President Javier Milei declared two days of mourning for the slain mother and her children.

Israeli Prime Minister thanked Milei on X, stating the declaration “should serve as an inspiration to all leaders of the civilized world.”

Tropepi concluded, “We will continue to raise our voices until every hostage in Gaza is returned home, Hamas is defeated, and the world fully comprehends the magnitude of the horror these people endured.”
