Lorenzo Rovagnati, CEO of the Italian food company Rovagnati, died Wednesday in a helicopter crash in north-central Italy, along with two others.

The crash occurred on the grounds of Castelguelfo di Noceto, a medieval castle owned by the Rovagnati family, according to Biassono Mayor Luciano Casiraghi.

Video footage shows heavy fog in the area at the time of the accident.

“A sad day for Biassono,” Casiraghi wrote in a Facebook post. He learned of the 40-year-old’s death from the mayor of Noceto. Casiraghi described Rovagnati as a “good, honest and hardworking young man,” valued by those who knew him.

The mayor called Rovagnati a “young man who still had a great future ahead of him,” both personally and professionally. He expressed disbelief and offered condolences to Rovagnati’s family, including his wife.

Biassono observed a period of mourning from February 6th to 8th. Casiraghi noted the Rovagnati family’s significant contributions to the community’s social and economic development, expressing gratitude for their involvement.

Rovagnati produces a variety of Italian cured meats, including prosciutto, salami, and mortadella. Their website highlights the traditional methods used in production, emphasizing the preservation of natural characteristics and high digestibility.

Authorities are investigating the crash. Digital reached out to Rovagnati for comment.
