Sunday saw a Russian airstrike claim a life in Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, as the number of fatalities from Friday’s devastating attack on Kryvyi Rih, a city in central Ukraine, continued to climb.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that the victim in Kyiv was discovered near the center of the Darnytskyi district strike. The attack also injured three others and ignited fires in several non-residential areas, causing damage to vehicles and buildings.

President Zelenskyy stated on social media that the increased Russian attacks demonstrate the continued inadequacy of international pressure on Moscow.

He stated that in the past week alone, Russia has launched over 1,460 guided aerial bombs, almost 670 attack drones, and more than 30 missiles at Ukraine.

“These attacks are (Russian President Vladimir) Putin’s response to all international diplomatic efforts. Each of our partners — the United States, all of Europe, the entire world — has seen that Russia intends to continue the war and the killing,” Zelenskyy said.

“That is why there can be no easing of pressure. All efforts must be aimed at guaranteeing security and bringing peace closer.”

Meanwhile, officials reported that the death toll from Friday’s attack on Kryvyi Rih had risen to 19, including numerous children, with 75 others injured.

Oleksandr Vilkul, the head of Kryvyi Rih’s military administration, announced a three-day mourning period for the attack, beginning on April 7, expressing that “pain in the hearts of millions of people”.

“Together we will stand. And no matter how difficult it is, we will win,” he said. “The enemy will be punished for every Ukrainian and for every mother’s tear.”

Local authorities indicated that the strike in Kryvyi Rih damaged 44 apartment buildings and 23 private homes.

On Friday, the Russian Defense Ministry asserted that it had conducted a precise missile strike using a high explosive warhead on a restaurant where a meeting involving unit commanders and Western instructors was taking place.

The Russian military alleged that the strike resulted in the deaths of 85 military personnel and foreign officers, along with the destruction of 20 vehicles. These claims have not been independently verified, and the Ukrainian General Staff has refuted them.

Elsewhere, the Ukrainian military reported Sunday that Russian forces launched 23 missiles and 109 strike and decoy drones across Ukraine overnight. They claimed to have shot down thirteen missiles and 40 drones, while 53 decoy drones were jammed and failed to reach their intended targets.

Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that its air defenses had taken down 11 Ukrainian drones, including eight over the Rostov region and two over the Kursk region.
