Macron convenes emergency EU summit to address Trump’s actions: report “`
French President Emmanuel Macron has convened an emergency summit for European leaders to address the actions of President Trump, according to a fellow European official.
As reported by Politico, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski alluded to this meeting during the Munich Security Conference on Saturday. Two EU officials confirmed to Politico that the meeting is scheduled for Monday.
“I’m pleased President Macron has called our leaders to Paris,” Sikorski stated, indicating the meeting will seriously address the implications of Trump’s actions.
“President Trump operates using a method the Russians call razvedka boyem – reconnaissance by combat. He pushes boundaries, observes the results, and adjusts his approach accordingly…We must respond,” the Polish official added.
Sikorski has openly commented on American politics before. He previously compared a poor debate performance to the decline of ancient Rome and told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell that Trump’s policies necessitated increased European defense spending.
Macron initially expressed cordiality towards Trump following the latter’s election in November. On X, Macron stated his willingness to collaborate: “Congratulations, President @realDonaldTrump. Ready to work together as we did for four years. With your convictions and mine. With respect and ambition. For more peace and prosperity.”
In December, during Trump’s visit to Paris for the Notre Dame Cathedral reopening, Macron called hosting him “an honor,” remarking, “It’s a great honor for French people to welcome you five years later…And I remember the solidarity and your immediate action. So, welcome back again. We are very happy to have you here.”
