Mexican authorities reported that a 12-year-old boy was fatally shot on Sunday after gunmen on jet skis fired at a rival drug dealer on a beach.

According to prosecutors, the boy, a local resident, was lying on a lounge chair with his family when he was struck by stray bullets.

The child, whose name was not released, was transported to a hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. The assailants escaped the scene on jet skis.

Prosecutors indicated that the intended target was a rival drug dealer involved in a dispute over drug sales.

No immediate information was provided regarding the gunmen.
