A missing medical student, 23-year-old Hadi Nazari from Melbourne, has been found after two weeks lost in the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales.

Nazari, who went missing on December 26th, 2024, after separating from his hiking companions to take photographs, survived on foraged berries, creek water, and two muesli bars.

He was located Wednesday afternoon when he encountered other hikers, reporting he was lost and dehydrated, according to Police Inspector Josh Broadfoot. Broadfoot described Nazari’s condition as “incredible,” noting his excellent spirits despite the ordeal.

He was found over six miles from his last known location, after a search involving more than 300 people across the national park encompassing Mount Kosciuszko. His campfire, camera, and hiking poles had been discovered earlier, indicating his continued movement.

Nazari was reunited with his hiking companions before being transported to a hospital. Video footage shows an emotional reunion preceding his departure. The weather during his disappearance was mild.

Search teams remained hopeful of a positive outcome, given Nazari’s experience as a hiker and possession of a tent. Ambulance Inspector Adam Mower stated that Nazari only required treatment for dehydration, highlighting his remarkably good health.
