North Korea Rejects Rubio’s ‘Rogue State’ Claim, Threatens Retaliation Against U.S. “`
North Korea denounced Senator Rubio’s characterization of the country as a “rogue state” as absurd, pledging a strong response to any provocation from the Trump administration.
Rubio made the comment last week on “The Megyn Kelly Show” while discussing U.S. foreign policy goals. He stated that the world is shifting to a multipolar system with great powers such as China and Russia, alongside rogue states like Iran and North Korea that require attention.
In response, the North Korean foreign ministry declared Rubio’s statement as a serious political provocation, violating international law’s principles of sovereignty and non-interference. The statement, released by North Korean state media, criticized Rubio’s remarks as reflecting the Trump administration’s flawed view of North Korea and asserted that it would not benefit U.S. interests.
“The Foreign Ministry of the DPRK considers the U.S. State Secretary’s hostile remarks, carelessly sullying the image of a sovereign state, a grave political provocation completely contradicting the principle of international law, which prioritizes respect for sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs. We strongly denounce and reject it,” the statement read.
The statement concluded by stating that North Korea would not tolerate any further provocation from the U.S. and would respond forcefully to any future hostility.
Rubio emphasized during the interview that U.S. foreign policy must prioritize national interests while avoiding war, citing the devastating consequences of past global conflicts and the current threat of nuclear annihilation.
“They’re celebrating the 80th anniversary this year of the end of the Second World War. That – I think if you look at the scale and scope of destruction and loss of life that occurred, it would be far worse if we had a global conflict now. It may end life on the planet,” he said. “And it sounds like hyperbole, but that’s – you have multiple countries now who have the capability to end life on Earth. And so we need to really work hard to avoid armed conflict as much as possible, but never at the expense of our national interest. So that’s the tricky balance.”
