Poland Accuses Russia of ‘Mocking’ Trump with Deadly Strikes in Ukraine
Following a recent deadly attack in Ukraine that resulted in 34 fatalities, including two children, on Palm Sunday, Poland’s Foreign Minister urged President Trump on Monday to take action against Vladimir Putin’s ongoing war.
“I am horrified by the latest wave of attacks,” Radoslaw Sikorski told reporters before the EU foreign ministers’ meeting in Luxembourg.
Sikorski stated, “Ukraine agreed to a ceasefire unconditionally over a month ago. The appalling attacks on Kryvyi Rih and Sumy are Russia’s mocking response.”
On Sunday, Russia launched two ballistic missiles into the center of Sumy, claiming to have targeted a meeting of high-ranking Ukrainian military officials. The city is located roughly 30 miles from the Russian border. Moscow claimed 60 troops were killed but offered no proof, and it’s unclear whether any officials were among the 30 dead and 119 injured.
The Sumy attack happened just over a week after Russia struck Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s hometown of Kryvyi Rih, in what was the deadliest strike against children since the war began, killing 19 people, including nine children, near a playground.
Sikorski said Monday, “I hope that President Trump and his administration realize that the Russian leader is making a mockery of their efforts for peace, and I hope they make the appropriate decisions.”
The attacks were quickly condemned by international leaders. Friedrich Merz, Germany’s chancellor-designate, described the attacks as a “serious war crime.”
Lithuanian leaders also condemned the attacks and summoned a Russian diplomat on Monday to discuss the incident.
France’s foreign minister, ahead of international discussions, called for increased sanctions on Russia to cripple its economy and halt its war efforts.
Trump also called the attacks “terrible” but noted he “was told they made a mistake.”
He added, “But I think it’s a horrible thing.”
According to The Associated Press, Russia has dropped 2,800 air bombs on Ukraine, fired more than 1,400 drones – including 62 Shahed drones Sunday night – and launched about 60 other missiles of various types in the last month.
