Pope Francis’ Condition Improves, Remains Stable, but Hospital Stay Continues
Pope Francis is making progress and his condition is stable as he nears a month-long stay in the hospital due to complications from bronchitis that developed into pneumonia.
The Vatican announced Thursday morning that the 88-year-old had a “restful night.” Thursday also marks the 12th anniversary of his election as leader of the Catholic Church.
He continues to receive non-invasive mechanical ventilation at night and high-flow oxygen therapy during the day.

On Wednesday, the Pope participated in spiritual exercises, received the Eucharist, prayed, and underwent physical therapy.
He also rested in the afternoon.
According to the statement, a chest X-ray taken on Tuesday confirmed the improvements doctors have observed in recent days. However, his condition remains “complex,” necessitating a longer hospital stay.
The Vatican announced on Monday that the Pope’s health has improved significantly this week, stating that he is “out of danger from death.”
He was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on Valentine’s Day after a week-long battle with bronchitis that gradually worsened and eventually became double pneumonia.
His health has been a major concern because of his age and the fact that he previously had part of a lung removed.
