Reports Indicate Hamas Leader Ismail Haniyeh is Dead
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced on Wednesday that Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran, but no group immediately took responsibility for the attack.
Israel was immediately blamed for the assassination following its vow to kill Haniyeh and other Hamas leaders in retaliation for the terrorist group’s Oct. 7 attack on the Jewish State, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people and the abduction of approximately 250 others, according to The Associated Press.
Haniyeh was in Tehran for Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday.
Iran did not disclose details about the manner of Haniyeh’s death. The incident is currently under investigation.
Analysts on Iranian state television swiftly attributed the assassination to Israel.
Israel has not yet responded, as it typically avoids public comments on assassinations carried out by its Mossad intelligence agency.
