South Korean Court Authorizes Arrest of President Yoon
A Seoul court on Tuesday authorized an arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk Yeol, who faces impeachment and suspension following the controversial declaration of martial law on December 3rd, investigative authorities reported.
The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials confirmed the Seoul Western District Court’s decision to grant the warrant.
Local media outlets report this marks the first time an arrest warrant has been issued for a South Korean president.
South Korean investigators had requested the warrant on Monday, citing Yoon’s role in the brief imposition of martial law earlier this month.
Yoon is under criminal investigation for potential insurrection charges.
The court approved the warrant.
