Swedish police reported that at least five people suffered injuries in a school shooting on Tuesday.

The extent of the injuries and the shooter’s status remain unknown. The incident occurred at Risbergska School in Västhaga, Orebro, prompting police to request that the public avoid the area.

According to the BBC, Risbergska is an adult education center for individuals who did not complete primary or secondary education, also offering Swedish language courses for immigrants.

“A large-scale operation is currently underway at a school in Västhaga, Orebro,” Swedish police announced online, advising residents to “stay away from the Västhaga area.”

Police described the operation as responding to “threats of deadly violence.”

Andreas Sundling, 28, recounted barricading himself inside the school after hearing “three bangs and loud screams,” telling Expressen newspaper that they were awaiting evacuation.

Authorities have yet to release a statement regarding a potential motive.

Teacher Lena Warenmark informed SVT News that student attendance was unusually low Tuesday afternoon due to many students leaving after a national test. She also reported hearing approximately 10 gunshots.

Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer stated to Swedish news agency TT that the “reports of violence in Orebro are very serious” and that police are actively engaged on-site.
