Tel Aviv Hit by Explosion During Nighttime
A powerful explosion shook Tel Aviv in the early hours of Thursday morning amidst the ongoing conflict with Hamas.
Foreign correspondent Trey Yingst, who was at the scene, shared footage on X of himself standing on shattered glass from a storefront across the street.
Yingst reported that emergency services were inspecting a partially residential area to assess if anyone had been hurt in the blast.
“I’m being very cautious about the details,” Yingst said, noting that he had not been able to speak with any sources yet due to the late hour. “We are working to understand what exactly happened.”
A statement from the Israel Defense Forces stated, “An initial investigation suggests the explosion in Tel Aviv was caused by a falling aerial target, and no sirens were sounded. The incident is under thorough examination.”
He later added in a post that a photo shop across the street from the U.S. embassy was damaged in the blast, describing the situation as “very fluid.”
A police spokesperson said, “A short time ago, a report came in via the police hotline about an explosion heard in a building in Tel Aviv. Significant forces from the Tel Aviv District Police and police bomb disposal experts have arrived at the scene and are managing the situation.”
Israel has been engaged in conflict since Hamas launched an unprovoked attack on the country last October.
