Trump Doubles Down: Iran Will Not Be Allowed to Enrich Uranium

President reaffirmed his administration’s firm stance on nuclear talks with Iran on Monday evening, stating that Tehran will not be permitted “any enrichment of uranium.”

His message, shared across various social media platforms, seemed to directly counter a report, citing two sources with “direct knowledge,” which detailed a supposedly secret U.S. proposal to Tehran. This proposal allegedly included allowing “limited low-level uranium enrichment on Iranian soil for a to-be-determined period.”

Digital could not independently confirm the proposal’s details. However, allowing Tehran any uranium enrichment would directly contradict statements issued by lead negotiator Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Trump.

Iran has consistently asserted its right to the process, vital for nuclear energy, and has said it will . Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi reiterated this stance in a press conference in Egypt on Monday. According to the Tasnim News Agency, he plans to respond to the U.S. proposal soon.

Araqchi didn’t comment on the specific agreement details but said his “response will be based on the principles of the Iranian nation.”

The proposal also suggested that could join a regional consortium for uranium enrichment to address its enrichment needs. However, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei reportedly dismissed this as , nor a sufficient substitute, on Monday.

“If some parties are proposing such a process, we welcome it and have no problem with participation either. But we emphasize that such an initiative cannot replace enrichment inside Iran,” the spokesperson stated.

The White House hasn’t specified how long it will negotiate with Iran regarding its nuclear program. Security officials have repeatedly cautioned that Iran might be stalling as the threat of U.N. snapback sanctions nears expiration in October.

Iran reiterated on Tuesday that it will not abandon negotiations but indicated it would not yield to Washington’s demands.

“Iran won’t leave the negotiating table while protecting its national interests,” said Fatemeh Mohajerani, a spokesperson for the Iranian government, according to the Tasnim News Agency.

She added, “All scenarios are on the table. We are prepared for everything.”
