Turkish Officials Clash at Council Meeting Over Republic Day Celebration Costs
A council meeting in Turkey descended into a physical altercation as tensions escalated over the expenses for celebrations marking the country’s founding, a time marked by economic strain.
The Council allocated 69 million Turkish lira, equivalent to $2 million, for a concert featuring singer Ebru Gündeş during the October 29 Republic Day celebration, according to media reports.
An additional 71 million lira was earmarked for a performance by the rock band Mor ve Ötesi, raising concerns among critics.
