TWO suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were captured after an encounter between the troopers belonging to the 94th Infantry Battalion and about 30 rebels in Sitio Agbagacay, Barangay Santol, Binalbagan on Tuesday, August 3, 2021.

An M653 Baby Armalite, assorted magazines/ ammunition, solar panels, radios, cellphones, two backpacks, and other war materials were captured after the 10-minute firefight, the military report said.

Residents have also reported seeing some rebels carrying with them their wounded comrades, while no one was hurt among government troopers.

94IB Commander Lieutenant Colonel Angelo Guzman identified the captured rebels as George Esoy aka Pakyaw/Pakner and Eduardo Estrada aka Edo, both residents of Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental and members of the NPA’s Central Negros Front 1.

They were captured after residents noticed them hiding in a creek line.

Guzman said the operation was launched after some residents of Barangay Santol reported the presence of fully armed men in their village.

“Our operations in Negros is and will be relentless. We are determined to free the communities from CNT (communist NPA terrorist) presence and terroristic activities,” said Guzman.

“Hence, we call on the rebels to lay down their arms, live a quality life with their families and be more productive citizens of the community rather than get killed, spend years behind bars and waste their time running from government fighting for a wrong cause,” he added.

On July 22, 2021, the 94IB also encountered some 20 rebels in Sitio Manulaya, Barangay Tan-awan, Kabankalan City.
