Agrarian Coop undergoes virtual pre-registration seminar

THE Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Negros Occidental-North has conducted a virtual pre-registration seminar (PRS) together with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) to members of the Telim-Malatas Agrarian Reform Cooperative at Barangay Malatas in Calatrava town recently.Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Officer Jonalyn Portrias, who spoke at the seminar, said the DAR is ready to assist and support the farmer-beneficiaries as they create a cooperative that shall be very helpful to them.Under Republic Act (RA) 6939 and RA 9520, the CDA promulgates the guidelines on the conduct of the PRS to promote the viability and growth of cooperatives as instruments of equity, social justice and economic development; defining its powers, functions, and responsibilities; rationalizing government policies and agencies with cooperative functions; supporting cooperative development; and transferring the registration and regulation functions of existing government agencies on cooperatives.Article 10 of RA 9520 states that in organizing a primary cooperative, 15 or more natural persons who are Filipino citizens, of legal age, have a common bond of interest, and are residing or working in their intended area of operation, may organize a primary cooperative.Provided, a prospective member of a primary cooperative must have completed a Pre-Membership Education Seminar (PMES).This activity is another step toward the organization of the Telim-Malatas Agrarian Reform Cooperative.The DAR, through its Program Beneficiaries Development (PBD) Division, constitutes development and support services interventions by the provision of training programs and construction and rehabilitation of infrastructure facilities.Access for ARB households to basic social services is also included in this sector to ensure holistic support for the farmer-beneficiaries.
