VITAL installations, police stations and military camps in Negros Occidental will be closely monitored by authorities because they might become targets of atrocities by the New People’s Army (NPA), as the rebel group will be celebrating its anniversary Tuesday, March 29.Lieutenant Abegael Donasco, spokesperson of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo), said they have prepared their information operation materials, which will be posted on social media and various police stations.Donasco said this will serve as a warning to all policemen so that they will not let their guards down and continue to be vigilant. She said Nocppo Director Leo Pamittan reminded all policemen to be cautious because NPA rebels may attack even in the “white areas.”“We are prohibited to post our current locations on our social media accounts and are barred from strolling while off-duty as we will become vulnerable targets for the attacks (of the NPA),” Donasco said. The police official added that they are asking help from the residents to immediately report to them any suspicious personalities in their areas. For his part, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander Brigadier General Inocencio Pasaporte said they have an ongoing security patrol in different localities, especially that the local campaign has started. In Negros Island, Pasaporte said the capability of NPA to conduct any atrocity has weakened since most of their leaders are either killed or were arrested. The reduction of NPA forces in the island is also attributed to the successful programs of different local government units (LGUs) for those rebels who decide to return to the government fold, he said.“There is no need to add more soldiers. Our current force is already enough since some soldiers who were deployed before in Marawi have already returned,” Pasaporte added. The military official said they will not stop their efforts even if the NPA forces in Negros Island have weakened and will mobilize not only the military and the police but also force multipliers, as well as Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit.As to the two rebels killed in a clash in Himamaylan City on Saturday, March 26, Pasaporte said they are not high-ranking officials. As of Monday, March 28, the remains of Arnulfo Sabanal alias “Arnold,” 41 and Jayson Sabanal, 30, both of Sitio Cunalom in Barangay Carabalan, have already been endorsed to their families, he said.Meanwhile, the left-leaning organizations of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in Central Negros withdrew their support and publicly condemned the atrocities and human rights violations of the communist NPA during the local peace engagement and condemnation rally held at the Covered Court in Barangay Nagasi on Saturday, March 26.Members of the Katilingban sa mga Mangunguma kag Mamumugon sa Nagasi (Kammana) Federation showed up support to the government’s effort in eradicating the insurgency problems in the Negros Island. These labor sectors were then under the influence of a peasant group that is being used by the CTG as source of financial, material, and other logistic support, the military said. They were also used in strikes and other uprisings against the government, its records showed. These organizations, together with La Carlota City Municipal Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (Elcac), 62nd Infantry (Unifier) Battalion, 32nd Civil Military Operations (CMO) Company, 3rd CMO Battalion, La Carlota City Police, Barangay Nagasi residents and peace advocates denounced the 53 years of brutal killings, extortion, recruiting of minors, sowing chaos and destroying civilian properties by the Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA Terrorists (CNTs).The activity was highlighted with a symbolic burning of the NPA flag, showing that these sectoral groups are against the atrocities and human rights violations of the CNTs.After that, the residents denounced their support to the CPP-NPA-NDF by rendering the “Panumpa sa Kalinong,” offering prayer and candle lighting for the victims of NPA atrocities and human rights victims. They also released white balloons to symbolize peace, unity, and freedom from CNT terroristic threats. Tarpaulins and placards of known CNT personalities were also displayed.Personnel from 62nd IB and Philippine National Police (PNP), meanwhile, explained the benefits of the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (Eclip).Felix Sunalan Jr., chairman of Kammana Federation, said they appreciate and thankful for the efforts of the Army and PNP in helping them realize the “selfish intentions” of the CTG and their legal front organizations.
