THE post-election cleanup committee of Bacolod City has sought the assistance of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) and the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation to fast-track the removal of campaign materials in the city.City Administrator Edward Joseph Cuansing, action officer of the committee, said in a statement that they already coordinated with ABC President Lady Gles Pallen and SK President Ayesha Villaflor regarding the matter.A committee hearing was conducted last May 13 at the Bacolod Government Center where they discussed the concern.Cuansing said they aggreed to start removing the campaign materials like tarpaulins, which are easy to remove, unlike posters that are glued directly to the walls. He said any political party is welcome to help in the operation. Also present in the meeting were ABC representative April Joy Maquiling, Joecelyn Jonota of the SK Federation, and Neil Marcelino of the IPM-Construction and Development Corp.On May 10, outgoing Mayor Evelio Leonardia created the committee to remove the large quantity of campaign materials installed by candidates in various areas during the campaign period.Chaired by Leonardia and co-chaired by Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, the committee members included Acting Secretary to the Mayor Ma. Victorias Parrenas; Engineer Aladino Agbones of City Engineer’s Office; General Services Office head Gilda Lluisma; Ramil Palalon, officer-in-charge of Department of Public Services; lawyer Reuben Sabig of the City Legal Office; and the Public Information Office.Lluisma said some of the tarpaulins that they removed last week were given to La Consolacion College Bacolod to be recycled by the students.Leonardia earlier tasked its members to inform private property owners regarding the removal of campaign materials.“Those involved in the committee must ensure the cleanliness of the city after the removal operations,” he added.
