Cadiz’s centenarians get P100K cash

Three Cadiz centenarians received recognition and cash incentives from the National government through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region VI, last March 2, a statement from the city government said.Awarded as one of the region’s oldest residents, 103-year-old Virginia S. Ayuno of Barangay Sicaba personally accepted her one-time P100,000 cash award and a Letter of Felicitation that recognized her achievements from President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.Juan N. Diesma of the BLISS Project at Barangay Daga, who passed away at 100 years old, was given a Posthumous Plaque of Recognition issued by the DSWD Region VI.His daughter, Marylou Diesma Canete, received on his behalf the P100,000 cash and the plaque.Meanwhile, Lilia P. Deocampo of Barangay Luna, who died at 100 years old, was also given a Posthumous Plaque of Recognition issued by the DSWD Region VI.Her daughter, Deliscia Deocampo, took on her behalf the plaque and a P100,000 in cash.Any senior citizen who lives past a century is entitled to receive the award by virtue of Republic Act 10868, “an act honoring and granting additional benefits and privileges to Filipino centenarians, and for other purposes, also known as the “Centenarians Act of 2016”.However, to further validate the legitimacy of the claim, awarding to centenarians will undergo a stringent screening process from DSWD field personnel through home visits and assessment.Katherine Joy M. Lamprea, Social Welfare Officer IV of the DSWD Region VI in Iloilo City, led the awarding. She was assisted by Winona G. Balagosa, Cadiz City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) head, and Irene Javelona, Social Welfare Officer IV, also of CSWD. (PR)
