A SATELLITE registration for youth voters was held by the Commission on Elections (Comelec)-Bacolod in partnership with the Bacolod Youth Coalition for Democracy (BaCoD) at St. Joseph School La Salle, Barangay Villamonte Friday, July 16, 2021.

“We aimed to register 300 youth from Barangay Villamonte and from neighboring barangays Estefania, 8, 7, and 17,” Genrick Catalonia, BaCoD Satellite Registration Onsite director said.

Catalonia explained that the 300 youth were already identified by the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and have undergone a pre-registration process to ensure a “smooth and swift” registration process.

The satellite in Villamonte is the first of the three satellite registrations agreed upon by BaCoD and Comelec. “The next ones will be Barangay Mansilingan and Barangay Felisa, but BaCoD and Comelec haven’t set the final dates yet.”

“The conduct of satellite registrations in key barangays in Bacolod is a realization of one of our goals in BaCoD to activate the youth of Bacolod for the upcoming national elections,” Catalonia said.

“Gani ako nagapanawagan sa mga kabataan nga mag rehistro para sa atun bwas damlag. The youth plays an important role in the upcoming 2022 elections in the aspect of fighting and upholding democracy. Ako man nagapanawagan sa mga kabataan nga kami inyo updan sa BaCoD sa padayon nga pagparehistro kag pagedukar sa atun kaupod nga pamatan-on,” Catalonia added.

In an advisory, Comelec-Bacolod also announced that there will be no registration in their office Saturday due to the special registration requested by the Coalition and the SK Federation of Bacolod. Registration in their office will resume on Monday should the quarantine status of the city is in GCQ or lower.

BaCoD is an open non-partisan coalition composed of 15 youth organizations, SK Federation of Bacolod, and individual volunteers that aims to increase civic engagement of the youth of Bacolod. The coalition aims to conduct a voter registration campaign, intensive voters’ education, and craft a Unified Youth Agenda. (PR)
