NEGROS Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson has urged local candidates in the province to avoid engaging in any violent acts as the campaign for local elections starts today, March 25.”Although there are areas considered as areas of concern, it is upon us to show that we can have a peaceful election,” Lacson said, as he told local bets not to be violent and respect the results of the May 9, 2022 elections.”Do not do any negative campaigning because who knows your opponent this election will be your ally in the future. [So] let us maintain a high-level campaign,” the incumbent governor said.Lacson, meanwhile, led the last day of the distribution of assistance including roofing materials worth P8.6 million and banana seedlings to the victims of Typhoon Odette in Hinigaran town Thursday, March 24.”After the campaign, we will [continue to] distribute if there’s more to give. But for now, this is the last day because we are no longer allowed under Comelec rules,” he pointed out.The governor also emphasized that even if the housing assistance of the National Housing Authority will be given exemption by the Comelec from the banning, he will still not participate in the distribution.Lacson, who is seeking reelection for his second term, said he does not want to be accused of taking advantage of his incumbency.
