INCUMBENT Senator and presidential aspirtant Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao will visit Negros Occidental on Friday, April 1, 2022, his campaigner former Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella confirmed Monday, March 28, 2022.Upon his arrival, Pacquiao is set to pay a courtesy call to Silay City Mayor Mark Adrew Arthur Golez, Talisay City Mayor Nilo Jesus Antonio Neil Lizares III, and Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson.Puentevella said the presidential aspirant will also have lunch with mayoralty bet former congressman Alfredo “Albee” Benitez and the Bantug family at the Bantug Lake Ranch in Barangay Alangilan, Bacolod City.Benitez, who is challenging incumbent Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia, earlier expressed support for the candidacy of former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.Under Leonardia’s administration, Pacquiao was declared by the City Government as an “adopted son of Bacolod.”Leonardia and Pacquiao are long-time friends. The mayor has been carrying either the Philippine flag or Pacquiao’s championship belt whenever the boxing icon invites the mayor to join him in his fights. The mayor is the godfather of Queenie and Israel, two of the senator’s children. In 2016, when Pacquiao became senator and Leonardia became mayor again, he invited the senator to administer his oath at the Bacolod City Government Center. No details yet if he will also meet with Leonardia during his upcoming visit in the city. But according to Puentevella, his itinerary does not include a visit to the Bacolod City Government Center. What Puentevella just announced in a press conference Monday afternoon was that the Senator may also proceed to Bago City and in three major markets in Bacolod City prior to a meeting with some pastors in the evening. To cap his visit, Pacquiao may have a grand rally at the Bacolod public plaza on Friday evening, he said, adding that “it is not sure yet.”The boxing champ turned politician will be with his wife Jinky, who is expected to render a song number if the rally pushes through.Pacquiao is also tentatively set to hold a press conference, Puentevella said.He added that Pacquiao’s runningmate, former Manila Mayor Lito Atienza, may not be able to visit due to knee pains.Earlier, other presidential aspirants including Vice President Leni Robredo, former senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, and Senator Panfilo Lacson also visited the province for their campaign sorties.
