Robredo wins over Marcos in Negros Occidental, loses in Bacolod

PRESIDENTIAL aspirant Vice President Leni Robredo won with a slim margin over rival, former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., in the vote-rich province of Negros Occidental.Partial, unofficial results generated from the data of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) as of 3:02 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, with 99.8 percent of election returns counted, showed that Robredo obtained 527,321 votes in the province, while Marcos only had 482,344.It is not the same case however in the province’s capital Bacolod City where all the election returns have already been tabulated.Comelec records showed that Robredo fell short to Marcos who had 121,179 votes. She only had 112,051 votes.Robredo won in the bailiwicks of his supporters Mayors Salvador Escalante Jr. and Alfredo MaraƱon III in the cities of Cadiz and Sagay, respectively.She also won in Himamaylan City and Sipalay City in southern portion of Negros Occidental, the places she visited during her sorties.The Vice President also won in the cities of Kabankalan, Silay, Talisay, Bago and Victorias, as well as in the towns of E.B. Magalona, Isabela, Hinigaran, Candoni, Manapla, Valladolid, Cauayan, Ilog and Moises Padilla.The remaining localities in the province, on the other hand, delivered more votes for Marcos.Meanwhile, Robredo’s runningmate Senator Francis Pangilinan lost to Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio for the vice presidential seat in Bacolod City.Pangilinan only had 76,095 of votes against the 120,394 of Duterte-Carpio, who was supported by Bacolod City incumbent Mayor Evelio Leonardia.He also lost the race in the province with only 376,288 votes while Duterte-Carpio had 475,854.
