REPRESENTATIVES of the Center for Migrant Advocacy (CMA)-Philippine Inc., chose San Carlos City’s programs and services provided to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) as one of the subjects for their case study.Raven Gutierrez, researcher and writer, said that CMA-Philippines Inc., is a non-government organization based in Quezon City that helps migrant workers and their families through their policy advocacy. He added that their research and case study focuses on the reintegration program provided by San Carlos City for the displaced OFWs who never returned to their respective work abroad.Gutierrez said OFW returnees in San Carlos City are fortunate because there are already existing programs like various livelihood trainings and provision of ten working days as job order workers in the local government which the OFWs can avail. He also emphasized that after the research they will produce a brief policy based on the documents containing recommendation to further improve the programs and services of the city of San Carlos for migrant workers.Other local government units in Negros Occidental also chosen for the case study are Talisay City, Victorias City and Municipality of Murcia.Gutierrez and company interviewed City Mayor Renato Y. Gustilo; PESO staff led by Manager Mariel M. Avenir; Engineer Magnolia B. Antonio, City Planning and Development Coordinator and presidents of the OFW associations in the different barangays.Representatives of CMA were accompanied by Elvince Sarojono, Program Officer and Samantha Chan, Program Support Associate of AWO International and Salvacion Barrios, President of Negros Occidental OFW Federation.
