“OUR town is a victim of the politicking of some officials.”This was how Toboso Mayor Richard Jaojoco described the quandary in the Municipal Government after the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) issued a show cause order for its failure to release the P6.8-million assistance for Typhoon Odette victims.Toboso is the only local government unit (LGU) in Negros Occidental slapped with a show cause order due to the slow distribution of cash aid to typhoon victims. The DILG issued show cause orders to 48 LGUs nationwide. Of the number, 16 are in Western Visayas.Jaojoco said the Municipal Council headed by Vice Mayor Jesse Rex Bartolome did not grant him the authority to sign memoranda of agreements (MOAs) required for the disbursement of the funds.Citing the composition of the Municipal Council, the mayor said four are his allies, while the other four are from the other party but they are led by the vice mayor.Because of this, Jaojoco said the Municipal Government had not released any of the funds at all.The town earlier received P1.8 million from the Department of Budget and Management and another P5 million from the Office of the President, he said.Toboso is operating on a reenacted budget after the town council failed to approve the proposed 2022 budget, the mayor said.
