Launch of the Resilient Facilities Business Unit

Metco Engineering Initiates Resilient Facilities Business Unit with Initial Projects in Harris County, Texas
Houston, Texas, February 15, 2026 – Metco Engineering, Inc., a Texas-based provider of on-site clean energy solutions, today announced the establishment of its new Resilient Facilities Business Unit, which is committed to transforming public buildings into community-powered safe havens during power grid outages and extreme weather events.
The business unit’s first projects are being carried out in partnership with Harris County as part of the County’s Distributed Energy Resources Strategy (DERS) initiative. Multiple community centers, libraries, and public facilities are being upgraded with advanced solar and distributed energy technologies to enhance resilience, reduce operating costs, and lessen the environmental impact.
The inaugural project at the Almendarez Community Center in Aldine shows how solar energy systems can support daily operations while enabling the facilities to serve as emergency shelters during widespread power outages.
“Five years after Winter Storm Uri revealed the vulnerabilities in the Texas power grid, communities are demanding solutions that offer both reliability and affordability,” said Clifton Braddock, Director of Business Development for Metco Engineering. “Through our Resilient Facilities Business Unit, we are assisting public agencies in converting ordinary buildings into reliable places of refuge, safety, and comfort when neighborhoods need them the most.”
Metco’s resilient facility model incorporates:
- On-site solar power generation
- Intelligent energy management systems
- Critical load prioritization
- Infrastructure designed to support emergency shelter operations
By generating clean energy on-site, participating facilities reduce their dependence on the grid, lower long-term energy costs, and enhance their ability to operate during extreme heat, winter storms, hurricanes, or unexpected outages.
The Harris County projects serve as a scalable model for cities, counties, school districts, and other public entities across Texas that are seeking to enhance energy security while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
“Resilience is no longer an option,” the spokesperson added. “It is a core component of public infrastructure. We are proud to support Harris County’s leadership in providing storm-ready, solar-powered facilities that protect both residents and taxpayer money.”
Metco Engineering plans to expand its Resilient Facilities Business Unit across Texas and beyond, collaborating with public and private clients to design, construct, and maintain on-site clean energy systems that ensure operational continuity when it matters most.
