Bondi Beach Terror Attack: A Timeline of Australia’s Deadliest Mass Shooting in Decades

Video footage captured by onlookers details much of the assault in which two attackers killed at least 15 people and injured at least 40 others. These recordings offer a stark, minute-by-minute account of Australia’s most lethal mass shooting in three decades.
The alleged attackers, identified as 50-year-old Sajid Akram and his 24-year-old son Naveed, began shooting at a crowd from a pedestrian bridge over a parking area close to a Hanukkah gathering. A video reviewed by the BBC and other media, apparently filmed near the bridge, shows nearly eleven unbroken minutes of the incident, featuring an exchange of over 100 gunshots between the suspected gunmen and police. The tragedy has sparked renewed demands for stricter firearm regulations and further action to confront a .
Based on online videos, here is how the attack transpired.
Gunmen fire at Hanukkah event
In the footage from near the footbridge, the two gunmen are visible on a bridge adjacent to a park by Bondi Beach, one dressed entirely in black and the other in white pants, armed with what seem to be long-barrel shotguns.
One gunman fired the initial shot at 6:42 p.m. toward the park. Nearby footage shows numerous beachgoers fleeing the area at that moment, resulting in a largely deserted beach. The sounds of police sirens and gunfire are audible.
Approximately thirty seconds into the event, the gunman in white pants moves from the bridge to a spot nearer the park, while the one in black keeps shooting in that direction.
‘Hero’ bystander intervenes
Roughly three minutes after that gunman departs the bridge, a —can be seen in video hiding behind a vehicle before charging at the attacker. After subduing and taking his weapon, Al Ahmed forces the gunman to retreat, then sets down the firearm and seeks cover. Al Ahmed remained hospitalized on Monday following surgery for multiple gunshot wounds, reported.
The gunman goes back to the bridge and resumes firing at the park with another weapon.
Soon after, police fire appears to be directed at the gunmen.
Gunmen shot
At about four minutes and thirty seconds into the video, the gunman in white seems to be hit by police gunfire from behind.
The gunman in black persists in shooting toward the park before turning to engage police. About a minute later, he is also struck by police fire and collapses. He rises but is shot once more, falling to the ground again.
More bystanders enter the scene
Over a minute later, as the violence concludes, a bystander walks toward the alleged attackers on the bridge when another shot rings out; its origin is unclear. The bystander raises his hands.
Around the seven-minute mark, additional members of the public and several police officers approach the bridge.
Chaos follows. As officers attempt to provide first aid to the gunmen—one seemingly dead and the other gravely wounded—more bystanders rush onto the scene. Some scuffle with each other, and one strikes a prone alleged gunman.
The video ends with blaring sirens, the arrival of more police, and officers struggling to control the area while bystanders still approach the bridge.
